Halloween Party – Oct. 23

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

I’m such a ditz sometimes, but at least I finally managed to be decisive and just pick a date to have a party. I think I managed to invite everyone (that I had email addresses for) that lives sorta in the area. I should just post invites here and send out a quick note to check my blog instead of spamming people. I think I’ll try that for my Christmas party. In fact here is the invite:

I’m hosting an early Halloween party to kick off the holiday season. I think I’ve been reading too many Better Homes & Gardens magazines because I’m feeling inspired. I will be providing my hot mulled apple cider/plum wine concoction, in addition to whatever mixed drinks people want me to make from my currently too large stash of hard alcohol. Bring your own beers, soda, etc. I’ll probably also go overboard making cookies & getting candy and there will be cupcakes in case anyone with a birthday makes it. :) There will also be chips, salsa & lasagna & garlic bread for those who want real food. Feel free to contribute any other food/snacks.

Beyond that there are no specific plans, I’ve found that a great group of people + food + alcohol makes for very fun times, no matter what we end up doing. Anyone with a long drive home, or just too much alcohol in their system is welcome to stay the night, you might even convince me to make fresh pancakes for breakfast. :) I have a queen size air mattress, a twin guest bed, a sofa and a love seat, glide rocker & papasan, if we fill that up you’ll just have to settle for floor space. Feel free to bring a guest or two. RSVP would be nice.

And Part II, where I remember that a time would be nice:
Ok, I think time is the only thing I forgot, so I’m stealing someone else’s idea and starting things up around 2pm. You can show up earlier… but only if youwant to be put to work. :)

Construction, ugh

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

Ok, so being the highly senstive person that I am, I can’t tune out the darned construction noises outside my window like my coworkers do. Cranking the music to cover it works somewhat, but then the music makes it a little harder to focus. So today I tried cranking up my ocean sounds, that seems to work slightly better, but the clip I have has such a low volume I have to crank the computer volume up to get it high enough, which means the random beeps & alerts & such are louder too – and tend to startle me. Earphones are too uncomfortable. And look at me whine! Horomones suck. And misery loves company of course. :) Hopefully I’ll be in a better mood tomorrow when I go over to JC’s for dinner and The Last Samurai. Maybe I’ll start putting up brief book reviews, at least once I get over this Nora Roberts romance novel kick I’m on. :) Yes I admit I read them! =P And believe it or not, I actually read them for the stories and characters, I sometimes even skim right past the sex scenes. Nora Roberts does a great job with developing character’s backgrounds and relationships and a lot of her stuff is centered around family – for example a trilogy that covers three siblings, so you really get to know the whole family over the course of the series. And while they are still romance novels, they don’t fall into the category of “trashy romance.” Well, I’m feeling better now, although still not focused on work. Oh well. :)

A little slow…

Thursday, September 23rd, 2004

So sorting through my vast collection of anime images downloaded from the web, I came across some from Onegai Sensei (roughly = Teacher, Please!) which I haven’t seen, and realized that the teacher was the same one from Onegai Twins (roughly = Twins, Please!) which I have seen some of. It isn’t knock your socks off, but the animation is pretty and the story is cute, and that’s enough to make me happy. So now I want to see Onegai Sensei since that was the original and Onegai Twins is just a spin-off. :)

More patchwork than a quilt!

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

More stuff for all you Windows users out there (I love OS X – and I freely admit that I’m not a gamer – I’m in it for the graphics, pretty pretty!):

Important: Once you do start patching for MS04-028, do not forget to patch twice – once for Microsoft Windows and once for Microsoft Office. Microsoft’s statement about WindowsXP SP2 being not vulnerable is a bit misleading. If you are running Office products, you need to patch them too regardless of your SP level. ”

hmmm… unmotivated

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004

I’m just feeling really unmotivated today, maybe I missed my vitamins a few too many mornings this week. I think I’ve been eating ok. I still need to go to Walgreens and stock up on slimfast though. Probably just hormones again. Blah.

Lunch means stop working!

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

Ah well, I only worked through half of lunch. :) So I’m switching eye doctors after this last appointment. It is so much easier to go to someone in Davis during my lunch hour. I don’t have to take sick time or anything. Anything to streamline my life. I managed to forget to put out the trash last night. Luckily I don’t generate that much garbage so I’ll be fine till next week. I hate the sound the garbage trucks make though. When I get new windows someday I’m going to get the insulated ones that will hopefully help with sound too. And big heavy velvet curtains. Those I’m considering getting now because they actually have them in the JC Penney catalog. So my Christmas present to myself will either be those or a KitchenAid stand mixer. Do I want to unleash my inner interior decorator or my inner baker? Why do I get the feeling the guys are voting for baking? ;) You all just want me for my cookies. :) I’m feeling much better today, I think I just tried to do to much this weekend. I’m hanging in, but I think I need to ponder my work situation and figure out what I want to work towards. Commuting and working 40 hours a week, even with a carpool, I don’t see as being a long term solution for me. I want more time to do things like cleaning my house, dealing with paperwork, planting the bulbs I bought at Costo in my yard, hanging out with friends, reading, etc. We’ll see what I come up with.

Yummy food

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

Phooey, another lost blog… maybe? Yeah, this one was really lost. Hmmm. Something about eating CS’s food at Cheesecake Factory – Sheperds Pie, it was good, gotta learn to make that. The Chicken Piccata I ordered was pretty bland. Um, thinking of hosting a party next month. I don’t remember what else I said. Oh, I do remember that I forgot to say that CS’s mom made muffins, and I didn’t think I’d like the pumpkin ones, but they’re really tasty. :)
