Cheap!

Wow, compared to Seattle and Sacramento housing prices in Portland are cheap! I think I’m going to focus my job search there. I’d love to make a trip there to check the area out in person.

The hottest average temps are in July & August at 79 degrees! It is a bit warmer than Seattle (the weather.com site is really useful!) and rains more, but I can handle those temps!

And lots and lots of recreation areas.

Also something to think about: Vancouver, WA is practically Portland, OR, but the bonuses of living there include:
    o No state income tax
    o Cheaper car tabs
    o Better police/fire/etc

…and you can always drive for 3 minutes south to avoid paying sales tax. (=

Of course, you might have to actually have a job in Vancouver instead of Portland to avoid having to pay Oregon income tax (which is pretty stiff, since they don’t have a sales tax), but since I don’t live there I don’t know for sure….

Yes, Portland is a wonderful city. Very alive, funky, and beautiful. There are two places in Oregon, polar opposites, that I have found habitable–Portland and Crater Lake. Except you can’t live at Crater Lake. The water is delish, though. Lots of random pics of Portland @ humanclock.com…
