5 Squirrel Day

5-squirrel-day

On the way in today, I decided to ask my neighbor if I could decorate the tree that is in front of and between our houses. I think shiny ball ornaments would look great on it’s bare branches.

I also saw my bridge squirrel buddies. They were taking turns running across the bridge railing and up into a tree at the other end. Sadly neither paused long enough for me to get a picture.

I saw one of the ubiquitous ground squirrels (though a cute small young one) when I was taking pictures of the leaf ripples made by the ART 154 class.

And once heading into campus I saw one squirrel under a tree nibbling on something, and two trees down another was up rustling in the bare branches.

Zero Grav Chair This “zero grav” chair by Stoke looks awesome!
Whirl Bowl And these whirl bowls are gorgeous (they make me think of my spiral motif).
Blue Velvet Sofa This sofa in blue velvet…. drool.
Xplory Stroller And not that I will need one for a VERY long time… but dang this is an awesome stroller (Stoke Xplory)!
Star Coasters And I like the idea of star shaped felt coasters - they’d be easy to make my own. The ones in the picture are actually black cork.

And love again broken down into 3 (the magic number!) main aspects:

Excerpt:

A Native American grandfather was teaching his grandson about life - and he said to the boy there is a fight going on inside me, and it is between two wolves. The same fight goes on inside you and inside every other human being.

One wolf is good. He is love, compassion, truth, faith, meaning, justice, peace and joy.

The other wolf is evil. He is hatred, anger, lies, blame, fear, ego, greed and regret.

-Which wolf will win?- said the boy.

-The one you feed,- said the grandfather.

Apple Geeks Kitty T-Shirt - Kitty bouncy bouncy!

Nestle Hot Chocolate packet with 1 cup water + 3 shakes each chili powder, nutmeg & cinnamon = teh yumzors for only 80 calories! :D

Also, as I was downloading the Happy Tree Friends podcast I was thinking about how some parts of my personality are in complete opposition to other parts. As just one example - I don’t like eating food with bone in it or seeing or touching raw meat - cause then I think about where it came from and don’t want to eat it. And I squeal with joy when I see super cute things like bunny moogles (FF12 artbook). And yet I love Happy Tree Friends where cute things die grotesque bloody deaths. Ok, I cringe while I laugh, but I still laugh! I’m sure there are other examples too, none just pop to mind that I’m willing to share. :P

Thanksgiving Weekend

Monday, November 27th, 2006

They let us out at 2pm Wednesday, though I stayed till 2:45 to make up for being in late that morning. My new psychiatrist let me stop taking the Remoran at night, and though I think it’s really helped with getting the weight off, I’m slowly readjusting to sleeping without it. The cats have been really good too about not waking me up at 6am for food… though I think not drinking my slimfast and taking my morning med then might be part of it too, so I’m going to try setting an alarm for that.

I just relaxed the rest of Wednesday and hung out with the kitties. Reading, nap on the sofa, all that good stuff.

Thanksgiving I drove to my pirate’s parents place in San Jose. I only got a little lost at the end and had to turn around twice. Not too bad for me. They fed me pasta and dosas for lunch. So yummy! Then my pirate & I went to get tickets for Casino Royale and drive around some. The bond movie was pretty good, though adjusting to yet another Bond was odd at first. We had dinner at a yummy Indian restaurant and I tried a bunch of new stuff I liked (though I still only ordered curry as usual). After that I had to head home before it got too late. I ended up having to stop for gas since it was quite a bit longer of a drive than I thought it would be.

Friday I slept in and then went to take care of A&T’s kitty who was still on a hunger strike and desperate for attention. Then I decided to try to set up my tree on my own. I managed to lug it in from the shed. And to put it in the stand and stand it up. But as I was turning it to shape the branches out…. it twisted the screws in the holder and fell on top of me. I was fine other than some scratches on my shoulder, but I went and took a long nap after that. Then I spent some time trying to get a stand from the company I got my tree from, but they don’t sell them separately anymore. So I looked up ones that let you set up the tree with one person and made sure Home Depot had them. The guy had to get a machine to get up to the shelf they were on and unpack them. I got it home…. and it wouldn’t work for my tree. So back I went again! This time he gave me some scrap wood and pipe to try to secure the tree in another holder and some ideas. So with wood and cardboard and duct tape, my tree finally got set up!

Saturday I relaxed and got all the tree branches arranged and watched four disks of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Sunday I cleaned a bunch and my pirate came over and helped me pull out my tree decorations. We had a nice small dinner at Aioli and then had some of the chicken I prepared when we got hungry again later. I couldn’t tasted the onion, but I think the addition of water and the apple cider mix definitely improved the chicken. We watched a few episodes of Get Backers before it got too late and I had to go to bed.

I’ve also lost 2 more pounds! 24 to go, and I fit into some of my old jeans again… though just barely at this point, better than not at all though!

Oh, and linkies:

Floral Coasters & Placemats - Floral coasters & placemats,

Scroll Linens scrolly placemats, napkins & dish towels.

Linen Bread Basket And a neat breadbasket. You know, for when I get around to trying to make my own bread.

Sugar Duck - Sugar ducks (instead of cubes) so cute!!!

Sugar Frog - Frogs too!

Animal Crossing

So how many of you thought of the game first? :P

Loon Only one tree squirrel today, but I did see some sort of Loon on Lake Spafford.

Last night was great, I zoomed home in 19 minutes and then my pirate kidnapped me for a movie. Happy Feet was so cute! Singing + Dancing + Penguins = Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus watching movies with him is always great. :)

Afterwards we stopped by A&T’s for kitty care instructions for me for this weekend starting tonight. Then it was off to get a dollar scoop at Baskin Robbins. My gentleman pirate insisted that the ice cream cone was not my dinner so I got chips & fresh tomato salsa at Chipotle and had a few bites of his burrito bowl.

My headache finally went away too thankfully. I’m really looking forward to the long weekend too. Though I think the weather is too bad up in Weed to go visit the papa this weekend. Maybe next weekend. Then I won’t have three sets of cats to take care of either! So this weekend I think I’ll try to get my decorating done for the holiday party. And I’d like to start working on making Christmas cards too.

And more cute stuff:
Tin Stars - Tin stars,

Agates - more options for agate plates & coasters (and ornaments/napkin rings & ikebana vases) and

Quartz Crystals lovely quartz crystal ornaments I so don’t need.

Birdie Day

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I had a headache all day yesterday and didn’t sleep well last night so I was an hour late to work today. But with the headache and my lips cracking I made sure to set up all my other vitamins last night, so hopefully taking them all again will help. And as usual when I look at how many things (and how big some of them are) that I take all at once, I end up thinking that I probably don’t ever have to worry about choking.

I just realized I broke my favorite insulated cup by microwaving it. :(

Anyway, on the way in today I saw two pairs of adorable Wood Ducks and stopped for pictures. I also saw a Great White Egret and a Snowy Egret about three feet from each other… and then another pair farther down. I also saw a Great Blue Heron last week. (Pictures follow in the order mentioned)
Wood DucksGreat White EgretSnowy EgretGreat Blue Heron

I discovered last night in dance class I MUCH prefer to lead Tango than to follow it oddly enough.

And my virtual window shopping for the day:
Radio Rabbit A cute radio rabbit I would never use.

Snowflake Card A card that becomes a pretty snowflake ornament.

Carrot BrushA carrot cleaning brush that I totally want.

LabbitThe labbit again!

L Shelves - L shape shelves that are in my color scheme (light blue, dark blue, silver/grey)!

And a bunch of mobiles.

Balance Mobile The Balance is crazy expensive but I just LOVE how it looks (though I don’t want it in red).

Feathers Mobile - Feathers is more reasonable but still pricey.

Bunny Mobile A bunny mobile!!!

Mobile Kit And a mobile kit (second item on the page) to make it easier to make my own mobile! And change it up too! Plus it’s really cheap!

Fish Magnets I want to make cute fish magnets like this only in different colors.

Water ToysAnd I actually have this bunny! Though I wasn’t quite sure what it was before.

And I lost 2 more pounds! 26ish to go! :D

Also, last night’s bike ride home after dance class was great, it was all foggy, and it was that kind of fog that captures all the light and bounces it around so it’s almost as bright at 9:45pm as it is on a heavily overcast day. Much brighter than even a clear full moon night.

Squirrel Sightings!

Monday, November 20th, 2006

I saw three tree squirrels on the way in this morning, and the first one I had to slam on my brakes since it dashed across the bridge right in front of my bike.

I had a really good weekend. With my pirate’s help I managed to get my boxes unpacked or hidden and my place cleaned up and the cooking done. So Saturday the family showed up and we enjoyed a nice meal and then played card games and just hung out talking. I had a few minutes of panicking thinking the cats had gotten out, and then later that I had lost the keys for my friends I’m cat sitting for…. but thankfully in both cases my gentleman pirate played the hero and found them for me.

Sunday we ran a few errands and then I picked up my bike from the shop (it was in for it’s free check-up) and rode home and just relaxed the rest of the night. I actually ended up having time to play WoW and went to Naxx for the first time.

Finally Friday

Friday, November 17th, 2006

And I’m still not ready for the family meal tomorrow! Lots of work to do tonight.

I tried taking the bike path home last night, but there are some nasty hills and way too many badly lit areas, so maybe I’ll try it again in the summer and see if there is a reasonable way home. I did see a poor little snakey trying to cross the bike path so I stopped and helped him slither off it so he wouldn’t get run over. Between the cold and the lack of anything on the path to really push against he was moving pretty slowly. So I just put my hands down and let him push off me to get off the path.

I managed unpack my (FIVE!) kitchen boxes last night, and it made me realize when I have the time/money I really want to remodel my kitchen. I prefer a raised bar to a dropped bar, and the bottom and top cabinets between the kitchen and dining room could really come out farther and give me way more storage. And I want drawers with a folding/expanding countertop between the fridge & stove. Plus the cabinets above the fridge need to be moved up anyway. And the corner cabinets need those rotating shelves to make better use of them. And I want that black shiny Silestone countertop (Stellar Night or Ebony Pearl). I like IKEA’s angled metal pillars for the raised bar. I’ll stick with the color scheme though since I really like it. Oh, and I want a shelf across the top of the kitchen window too, that’s level with the top of the other cabinets.

Counters
My arms have been itching in the evening the last couple days. In fact I bruised up my left arm pretty good scratching. I tried putting on lotion this morning to see if that helps and I’m going to look it up on WebMD too.

And I remembered my camera so I got some photos of those leaves I was admiring yesterday on the way in.

Linky stuffs: Post-it notes as wallpaper. And a post-it collage how to.

Morning Sunshine!

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

My pirate finally got to see my office since I asked him to come by and walk with me over to class. After dance class we went to dinner at Mana and had yummy food. I pretty much went right to be when I got home so no chores got done.

I was thinking this morning about how much the cats have changed how I sleep. I actually pull the covers over the bed to protect it from them, and when I sleep at night I hardly mess them up at all. When I was younger I’d completely cocoon up with the blankets wrapped all the way around me and tucked under. And I’d toss and turn so much that they’d tighten up and I’d have to wriggle my way out in the morning.

So anyway, I woke up and got ready really early this morning and left early, so I decided to experiment with taking the real bike path. So far the best route seems to be staying up top till going over the bridge by the fountain, crossing the street, then getting onto the south bike path, then before Lake Spafford crossing to the north path and back south after it. I’ll try it on the way home too. I got to see a couple walking their dogs - one looked like a small bear and the other was happily trying to stop and roll in the grass. Then there was a guy fishing (ick!) and by the duck field in front of Lake Spafford they had mowed/raked/something the leaves into concentric rings around the trees and curving lines everywhere else. It looked fabulous and made me wish I’d had my camera on me.

And I got to meet one of my coworker’s adorable big fluffy white Samoyed dog. So cute! So today is off to a good start! Now to get a bunch of unpacking and cleaning done tonight!

For sale

*drool*

Fun things to bike through - puddles (whoosh-splash!) and piles of leaves (crunch-rustle!)

We got more of my new doorknobs installed last night (and since I’m seeing both parents this month I can give them the new keys) and dishes washed and some boxes unpacked and the curtain rail up. So tonight is more unpacking and Thursday I’ll try to make the curtains and get them up. And I think I have just enough railing to do my sliding glass door and the dining room wall I want to cover. Yay! Though that probably won’t happen before this weekend.

And I get to see my pirate at dance class tonight! :D

Laser Light My cats would either love this laser light or go bonkers over it.

And I love these tables! I want a coffee table (blue) & two end tables (black & white).

Floral Table 2 - Floral Table 1.
Umbrella 1 - Umbrella 2 This umbrella is a similar effect and I like it too.

Plates 1 Cute square plates.

art-set.jpg And we used to have a spirograph (maybe do somewhere?) but this hypotrochoid is the same effect. Fun!

Looking for a black butter dish I found some pretty plates I’d mix and match (set 1, set 2, set 3, set 4, set 5) at Target… no matching butter dish though. :(

Therapy

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

So I went to see my therapist again today. I’ve been feeling great so we just went over my eating and then went back to going over my past. I still think there might be stuff I’m not aware of though I am aware of a lot of it. Like the avoidance thing I hadn’t really noticed till she pointed it out. And today we went over my lack of real friends when I was younger and she pointed out that I didn’t have a safe place/support group (that’s what books were for me - avoidance, friends and a safe place - I hated when books ended and cried when characters died). She said I should try journaling instead of blogging, but really, I may have not had a great childhood, but it’s nothing I’m ashamed of. We also touched on my tendency to horde things and my need for control and security due to my lack of it growing up. That’s why I feel such a strong need to own a home and have equity in and control over where I live. I also realized I still find my finances being tight embarrassing. And as someone pointed out to me in high school, embarrassment is merely caring too much about what others think. I currently own two homes, and I did what I had to in order to take care of myself, I shouldn’t feel ashamed that finances are tight until my old house sells.
