This is a great shot and brings back memories of the week or two that we had one of these in a cardboard box in the garage. The odd thing about these birds is that they can only take off from the water. This one had landed in the wet parking lot at Montgomery Village, thinking that the shiny blacktop was water. Mom isn’t terribly into animals, but dad is, so she managed to bring it home (or maybe called dad to get it?) when she realized that it seemed stuck in the parking lot (without knowing why at the time). Dad and I took care of it in it’s little box for a week or so until the bird rescue people could take it and get it released back into the wild safely. I think this was back when I was in junior high or early high school.
