I have no clue what these wild plants are. My cousin took this photo while we were out by the coast in Mendocino. Seeing these things brought back childhood memories of turning them into missiles.
We’d pluck these wherever we found them, then make a tight loop over the base of the head of the plant using the tough stem. Then you’d just pull the loop forward until the head of the plant popped off and flew toward your target.
I don’t really see these around in Davis, but I do see some of the other plants we used to play with. I’ll have to try to remember to get photos of those up at some point also.
