PSA: Energizer USB Battery Charger Software Infects PCs

"Researchers at US-CERT have warned that software accompanying the Energizer DUO USB battery charger contains a Trojan that gives hackers total access to a Windows PC. The product was sold in the US, Latin America, Europe and Asia starting in 2007. Upon installation, the software creates the file 'Arucer.dll,' a Trojan that listens for commands on TCP port 7777. Upon receiving instructions, the Trojan can download and execute files, transmit files stolen from the PC, or tweak the Windows registry. Uninstalling the software disables the automatic execution of the Trojan. Users can also remove Arucer.dll from Windows' system32 directory and reboot the machine to disable the backdoor component."

I still love getting picked up, and wish it had happened more when I was a kid (not your fault papa, I know you had a bad back!) – must remember to do this with my kids and not let the pirate hog all the fun: http://www.applegeeks.com/comics/viewcomic.php?issue=559

If the pirate or BW were cats… they’d totally make this joke:

Also, saw this today and just gotta so, so true:

Not the only one.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

On the one hand, intellectually I knew that I couldn’t be the only one to do this, but on the other, to have someone else actually admit to doing it too…. feels so great. Not as good as knowing that I’ve mostly trained myself out of it, but still pretty darn good. What is “it”?

Sometimes I actually know the program… which really means that I’ll guess which menu to start with and usually find the option on within the first three tries, but this is really all I do:

August 29 tour at: Charles Chocolates at http://www.charleschocolates.com/tours.php – I think the only chocolate they had that was worth the price was the mojito one.

Oct. 24th – MM’s birthday bbq, crazy yummy food and got to meet his lady, good times! She decorated a cake in fondant for him, pretty amazing!

I need to stay on top of these little updates better!

  • I'd like to do a photo/sketch a day, but I think that'll have to wait till I can at least do a post a day- still need to get more organized. #
  • Oh yeah, J&SP had a pizza night (home made!) Jan. 9th. Yum yum! I made brownies again in my Bakers Edge they got us for the wedding. #
  • Sadly, January's annual beer trip got canceled this year due to work issues for too many folks, so no trip up highway 1 to Portland. :( #
  • Cleaning out email and getting backlog of stuff posted. Neko-sama, the pirate & I drove around looking at holiday lights Dec 23. Cold fun! #
  • Hmm, J&BW's holiday party was Dec. 5th (I got to slack off this year!) and I can't recall if Apple Hill tree chopping was the 5th or 6th. #
  • Tree chopping involved brunch at http://www.sweetiepies.biz/, getting stuck for hours by a parade, snow, and tree chopping! Whee! #
  • Apple Hill was Sunday the 6th. That's why these emails clog up my inbox! I just need to keep up with my blogging data dump to keep it clear. #
  • Oh, and as always, much white elephant fun Saturday Dec. 12th at Pao-sama's party in the Bay Area. #
  • Oh, finally signed up for dropbox, referral link so you can sign up and I can get more space: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTMwNDc2ODQ5 #
  • Thanksgiving was in Santa Rosa in 2009, then I hosted Christmas, then New Years in the bay. #
  • In Nov the kitty scared us, but turned out she's just allergic either to fish stuff in general, or fish flavors of Fancy Feast in particular #
  • I recently got a blog set up for a friend, check it out! http://vixenarts.com/ #

  • Friday: Furlough day, yay! Got my goals done – fixed rain pants, freelance work, cleaned up email, relaxed. #
  • Saturday we had pizza at Amici's with MM, then spent the weekend with the pirates family for his mom's birthday. #
  • Sunday we also stopped by Q-Cup. I need to remember I don't like the crepes. The ones at the Bonjour Crepe Company are WAY better. #
