Love Languages

love-languages

I do own and have read this book. I think it’s actually pretty useful. Sometimes the golden rule doesn’t work for love.

The Five Love Languages

My primary love language is probably
Physical Touch
with a secondary love language being
Words of Affirmation.

Complete set of results

Physical Touch: 10
Words of Affirmation: 9
Quality Time: 6
Acts of Service: 5
Receiving Gifts: 0

Information

Unhappiness in relationships, according to Dr. Gary Chapman, is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages. Sometimes we don’t understand our partner’s requirements, or even our own. We all have a “love tank” that needs to be filled in order for us to express love to others, but there are different means by which our tank can be filled, and there are different ways that we can express love to others.

Salsa Headaches

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

So I’ve been doing really well with managing to get out salsa dancing most Tuesday nights. I could really do without these weird exercise headaches though. Last night was much better (even with forgetting to take my inhaler) and I was able more than once to dance two or three songs in a row. Afterward though my headache just wouldn’t quit. I managed to fall asleep, but woke up two or three times with it pounding. I got up around 8:30 because I’d woken up again and my head had subsided to a dull mild ache, and sometimes laying in bed too long can actually make it worse. I think I’m going to see if I can move up my neurologist appointment in October so I can ask about these headaches.

I also managed to get a note from my doctor suggesting that I be allowed to telecommute, so I really hope they get that set up soon. When you’re sleeping and dreaming about being tired, that’s not a good thing! Plus this is the first time I’ve been out dancing ever that I was yawning before the music stopped. Also, I think maybe young college guys aren’t used to checking for rings before hitting on girls. It’s sorta flattering, but at the same time, I’d rather be dancing (or recovering) than fending off someone’s advances.

Other than that, I have some phone calls to make this morning to the wedding locations I’m trying to decide between.

TGIF Sept. 19, 2008

I managed to get a bunch of stuff done at work today, and only stayed about 10-20 minutes late to do it (not counting the first 20 minutes I stayed late to make up for arriving 20 minutes late). Today’s plans are to make everything cookies for the BBQ & hopefully for JP too, and then help LR with prep for the bridal shower tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be busy but fun.

Then Sunday we’re going to check out a couple places in the San Jose area as possibilities for the wedding. Then all we have left is to visit the Sacramento Zoo and make a decision. We’re also going to try to have lunch with a couple friends of ours who just got engaged! Oh noes, it’s contagious! ;)

Today was a half day, sorta. I was supposed to work from 1-5, but I ended up staying until 7:45 getting stuff done. I did however get a good nap in this morning after the cleaning service came.

I’m still really happy with them and could see keeping one even after I’m a stay at home (budget allowing) to at least do the gross stuff like bathroom scrubbing. At some point I do want a Roomba to help keep things clean, but it partially depends on if it can handle cat urk. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to let it run when I’m not home, which is part of the appeal for me since I hate the sound of vacuums.

The other good thing about working late is that I can just make up the time on Friday and leave early to go help prepare for the bridal shower on Saturday.

And I meant to post this last night, but the power went out around 9:20 and I just now remembered I hadn’t finished posting.

Monday Morning

Monday, September 15th, 2008

We managed to get a bunch of chores and errands done this weekend. On Thursday I found out that they’re going to let me start telecommuting 2 hours a day and then see how that goes. I’m really really looking forward to it. I missed salsa dancing last Tuesday due to having a bunch of migraines early in the week. I think my next neurology appointment is in October. Anyway, just wanted to start posting quick updates in the morning until I find more time to get back to longer ones.

Stress Puppy

So last month was crazy with my sweetie working until anywhere between 12am and 3am and on the weekends and being stressed himself for a research paper. Then the week after that was working on his demo reel for Pixar. And in March I had over a week straight of daily migraines. Plus all of April I have a bunch of doctor and physical therapy appointments, a bunch of meetings, and am working for ReproGraphics up to about 2 hours a day. So I’ve been feeling pretty worn out too.

The good news is that my back (sciatica) and migraines seem to be doing much better. Just icing my back for 10 minutes 1-3 times a day has really helped, and no side affects like the Naproxen. Naproxen is basically Aleve, so I might try that when I run out at a lower dose and see if that works without upsetting my stomach.

Lots of plans today (haircut, cookie baking, working in Meow’s yard possibly & then MM’s graduation bbq), so I’m off!

Speaking of Chocolates

speaking-of-chocolates

A coworker brought in some espresso truffles from Starbucks. They came in purple wrappers with no branding and she didn’t bring the package in, so I don’t know who actually makes them, but they were fabulous! A rich chocolate flavor, and the coffee flavor was as strong as it could be without edging over into being yucky. Mmmmmm. I want more! They disappeared fast.

And Google to the rescue! They were: Milk Chocolate Caffè Mocha Truffles though the reviewer on that site didn’t care for them.

More Chocolately Goodness

Ghirardelli Intense Dark Citrus Sunset (60% Cacao) - This is what I wanted the Newtree one to be like, only this is more orangy than lemon. The texture was just right, and the orange was sweet and tangy but didn’t overwhelm the chocolate flavor. I’m not sure I tasted the caramel crunch, but it did give it a nice little crunch.

Lindt Excellence Toffee Crunch Milk Extra Fine - I split this with MM, sooo yummy! So their milk bars can be good too. I just don’t get why their truffles are so bad. I actually tried one again recently thinking maybe I was remembering wrong. Nope! They still fall in the “not worth wasting calories on” category. This bar however I’d happily get again, smooth, creamy and great toffee crunch and flavor.

Bunny Hunting Birdie?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

So I was biking home for lunch and I saw this large hawk slowly flying around and over the big empty field between Kaiser and IHOP (where I see all the bunnies in the mornings usually - looks like sometimes more than um… 15-20ish of them). I stopped for a while to watch it. It had a large white patch on it’s back at the base of it’s tail, and papa found a picture for me: http://buildyourownbirdhouseplans.com/images/Northern%20Harrier%20by%20Walter%20Ammann.jpg

It’s a Harrier Hawk, aka Marsh Hawk (cause they like to fly low over marshes).

83 Years of Marriage

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

So found this totally randomly today while looking how to post stuff via IM. But I thought it was pretty awesome. This couple has been married 83 years! That’s longer than the average American life span I think. And they have 186 descendants, all the way down to great-great-grandchildren. Plus half of their six kids have been married over 50 years!
