Mid November

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

This weekend we mostly just got chores and errands done. Sunday we had a late lunch with Meow at the new pizza place (Vito’s). The margherita pizza was ok, too much tomato and not enough basil. My pirate had a slice of the combo and that was better. Their garlic fries were really good, and my pirate was happy they gave us the buffalo sauce on the side for him to dip them in.

After that we checked out The Naturalist, I got a couple ornaments and a pair of star shaped crystal earrings. Plus we took pictures of their window displays as reference for possible wedding donations. Around 4pm my pirate went back to work and Meow and I went to see Madagascar 2. I think I liked it as much as the first one, and as always the penguins were awesome.

When I got home we worked on baking everything cookies for me to mail out. The first two batches went fine, but the third one I managed to forget the sugar. They actually tasted ok, but the stayed in tight balls instead of spreading out, and were all crumbly instead of gooey. My coworkers loved them though.

– The Villa was gorgeous, but they had no options for if it rained. Plus their reception rooms weren’t that great and they do a bunch of weddings on one day and they cost more than I wanted to spend anyway.

RM&MG came to visit in June. :D

J&LN baby shower, on Saturday, July 26th, followed by a BBQ at C&WC’s house for all the old IDAV folks.

File Cleaning & Priorities

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

So I came really close to spending a ridiculous amount on postage so I could get stamps to match my save the date postcards. Then I realized that most will get trashed or at best cut apart and used as ornaments like I intend. Spending more on stamps is just silly.

I also am looking through my old archive fold and cleaning out stuff like this hardware list for my first computer:
Acer Aspire P/N 91,AB576,Mo5
S/N 2601404720
DeskJet 672C
Iomega 250 Zip Parallel
Intuos Graphics Tablet
4GByte Hard Disk
128MB + 32MB

My daily gratitude is that I get paid time off to donate blood (2 hours per month), and that having Total cereal almost every morning keeps my iron up enough to allow me to do so. An hour or two snuggled up warm (to keep my blood moving) and quietly reading my magazines is always nice.

Happy Hair

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

So I just realized today that this has been a really good year for me as far as growing my hair out goes. First a coworker taught me how to twist it up, and I love how it feels so I wear my hair that way daily at work. Then a friend suggested I try parting my hair to one side or the other to give it more body. I haven’t tried that since junior high when it didn’t work at all. Now that I have a great hair cut though it actually works really well. I can part it to either side and I like how it looks and it’s not in my eyes so much. I don’t think I’ve let my hair part down the middle since discovering that.

On another front – we’ve found our location and I’m working on the contract now. Yay!

Email cleaning – February & March

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Feb 14 & 15 – There was a really big wind storm (not fun to bike in!!!) and power went out too – both days. Turns out once it was because of this: “Per KCRA 3 news this morning, E Street in Davis will be closed at some time today to remove a very large tree that’s leaning against the Zen-Toro restaurant.” And once was: “http://www.kcra.com/news/15307579/detail.html
The kcra channel has a slightly more interesting story – overhead lines downed by a crane on a barge AND a car hitting a West Sac. power pole at about the same time.”

Feb 28 – I found out today that my headaches really are migraines. But for now
the dr.wants me to stick with the meds I have (I had one I hadn’t
tried yet) and see how things go. Fun fun. So I’m logging everything I
can think of to track and see if I can figure out my triggers.
– Rikshaw on Broadway for $1 sushi night with the JCC crew.

I don’t recall much of March other than quals + paper + interviews for my pirate = lots of stress for both of us.

MT’s going away dinner (she moved to hawaii) at Meow’s house March 10th.

Pizza dinner with JG – we had three coupons for free personal pizza’s from donating blood – on the 14th.

March 24 – My old youth pastor agreed to officiate at the wedding. :D (So I guess I do have a bit more done than I thought.)

March 27 – Dinner with the JCC gang at Burgers and Brews. Good food and company as usual. :) TM was in Davis for the career faire, hence the weeknight dinner.

Dynamite

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

So I’m totally loving telecommuting. The week of migraines I would normally have ended up being only one tiny one that threatened and I squashed with my imitrex before it got full grown. Also, my fatigue seems to be gone for now too. No more wanting to nap at lunch time, and falling asleep 5 minutes before my alarm goes off that it’s time to leave. Plus I’m always on time now instead of anywhere from 0 to 20 minutes late. If I’m running late I can just brush my teeth while I check my email. Khalua seems super happy too, she’s spent most mornings on my lap or next to me, and she never used to be much of a lap kitty before unless you had food she wanted.

We watched part of Napoleon Dynamite with a friend last night, there were a couple amusing parts, but for the most part it was pretty boring. Supposedly the best part is the end, but it didn’t seem worth going through the whole thing to get there. That reminds me that I borrowed Juno from SP, I need to watch that and return it – and then borrow their staple gun to upgrade the kitties’ food platform with a cover so it’s easier to clean and the bowls don’t slide as much.

On the wedding front, I think we’ve picked our location finally. We’re just waiting on a couple more answers to questions. I need to get all the addresses together and start working on the save the dates now that I have the materials I need and we have a place. Plus, as of tomorrow we only have one year left!

Telecommuting

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

So after 6 years of effort… this week begins my first full week of partial telecommuting. :D YAY!

Wednesday we had dinner with J&BW and a couple of their friends. The first time we’ve hung out since their wedding.

Thursday we went to the book launch at the Melting Pot in Rocklin to celebrate our anniversary early and get a copy of the book free with dinner. Yummy, but a bit too much food. I even liked the cheese fondue we got. Especially with the celery strangely enough.

Saturday we got our hair cut and my pirate got his highlighted with blue. It looks really good. Then we went and had lunch at Coco’s since I love their chicken tortilla soup. We picked up JW & PH and headed out to Fairfield to check out the Fairfield Community Center. It was nice but pending getting a contract we’re happy with, I think we’re going to go with the Oakmont Golf Club. After that we headed over to J&SP’s place for a Halloween party. Yummy food as always, good conversation and we played some zombie flux and uno, followed by some Wii Cranium.

Today is our one year first engagement anniversary (tomorrow being the second and our 2 year anniversary). :D

Salsa Headaches

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

So I’ve been doing really well with managing to get out salsa dancing most Tuesday nights. I could really do without these weird exercise headaches though. Last night was much better (even with forgetting to take my inhaler) and I was able more than once to dance two or three songs in a row. Afterward though my headache just wouldn’t quit. I managed to fall asleep, but woke up two or three times with it pounding. I got up around 8:30 because I’d woken up again and my head had subsided to a dull mild ache, and sometimes laying in bed too long can actually make it worse. I think I’m going to see if I can move up my neurologist appointment in October so I can ask about these headaches.

I also managed to get a note from my doctor suggesting that I be allowed to telecommute, so I really hope they get that set up soon. When you’re sleeping and dreaming about being tired, that’s not a good thing! Plus this is the first time I’ve been out dancing ever that I was yawning before the music stopped. Also, I think maybe young college guys aren’t used to checking for rings before hitting on girls. It’s sorta flattering, but at the same time, I’d rather be dancing (or recovering) than fending off someone’s advances.

Other than that, I have some phone calls to make this morning to the wedding locations I’m trying to decide between.

TGIF Sept. 19, 2008

Friday, September 19th, 2008

I managed to get a bunch of stuff done at work today, and only stayed about 10-20 minutes late to do it (not counting the first 20 minutes I stayed late to make up for arriving 20 minutes late). Today’s plans are to make everything cookies for the BBQ & hopefully for JP too, and then help LR with prep for the bridal shower tomorrow. Tomorrow is going to be busy but fun.

Then Sunday we’re going to check out a couple places in the San Jose area as possibilities for the wedding. Then all we have left is to visit the Sacramento Zoo and make a decision. We’re also going to try to have lunch with a couple friends of ours who just got engaged! Oh noes, it’s contagious! ;)

Getting Caught Up Again – 200+ email backlog

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I finally have some time to clear out my mailbox and get somewhat up to date here. I think some of this I may have made time to blog about, but not all of it.

Wedding Dresses

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Ok, I have a bunch of stuff to catch up on from the holidays…. but today I went to try on dresses with JG at the House of Fashion. It was soooo fun and we found three I really liked. :D
